As we near the end of November, we cannot hide from the bombardment of Christmas adverts. Christmas is such an important and profitable time for fashion brands. It’s an exciting time for us as customers as we get to see their creative and often “magical” advertising campaigns.
Burberry Prorsum is no exception to this! With a snowy London as the backdrop, Burberry conveys a Christmas full of love – exchanging Burberry gifts of course. The designer brand is focusing on “the art of giving and the idea of shared festive love”.
The print adverts, released earlier this month, show couple in love and two rosy-cheeked children battling the wintery elements in their classic Burberry trench coats and check print scarfs, loaded down with Burberry shopping bags and bow wrapped boxes. The snowflakes falling from the sky are actually little hearts in warm champagne colour.
But Burberry won’t stop at just the print adverts; a video has been released too. It begins with a close-up of Burberry gift box with the embossed logo, small hearts already floating around the screen. Hold Me by Tom Odell, a favourite of Burberry, is playing in the background. The camera spans out to show box upon box of gifts in the back of a chauffeur driven 1930’s van. The next frame is of a couple, with the man’s arm around the woman’s waist, walking through the “snowing hearts”, arms full of gifts. The camera moves to focus on three children, dressed in the same way as the print adverts, throwing snow balls at each other with The Shard in the background. The creators make the connection between the innocence of falling in love and the innocence of children’s joy, in this case Christmas, whilst selling their brand and maintain their very British identity.
Additionally they held special events at their Regent Street and Covent Garden stores to coincide with the Christmas lights being turned on plus a 25-day countdown to Christmas on Instagram to look forward to.
This theme of love has been on Burberry’s radar for a long time. Heart print has been big feature in their Autumn/Winter 2013 collection – who can forget Harry Styles’ and Victoria Beckham’s infamous heart print shirts that has been replicated by much of the high street. Burberry has never shied away from romance with Eddie Redmanye & Cara Delevingne being very cosy with each other and real-life couple Sienna Miller& Tom Sturridge passionately kissing in their latest campaign. Prior to this Christmas promotion, The Burberry Kiss App has been downloadable since June, allowing users to send a kiss and watch it “fly away” to their chosen recipient.
I know that if my Christmas present was from Burberry, there would be a lot of love in the room!I know that if my Christmas present was from Burberry, there would be a lot of love in the room!
