SS20 Trend Report | Utility

First up in the Spring Summer 2020 trend report is utility. Appearing on different runways, each designer had their own interpretation of utility. Max Mara had a strong military influence in their collection, Stella McCartney added in nautical elements with rope waist ties and netted bags and Chloe's designs had an easy ready-to-wear practicality to it.

How 'utility' you want to be is up to you. For the fully committed, pair an oversized trench coat with loose fitting cargo trousers like Sophia Ippoliti. For others, a button up jumpsuit or pocket jacket is the effortless way to wear this trend. Finish an outfit with details like buckle boots and a messenger bag. Although this may feel like a practical trend there's no excuse to miss out on glamour! Dress like Christy Turlington and accessories with stand-out jewellery and a pink lip.

It may feel like you've already seen this trend but utility is an example of how designers and retailers are now evolving trends, meaning their customers can buy a few pieces they love to update their wardrobe rather than replacing the whole of last season. This more environmental way of thinking is present throughout Spring Summer 2020.
